CALL TO WORSHIP [⁞] Christmas Litany
Leader: Isaiah 9:2
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwell in a land of deep darkness, on them light has shined.” This is the good news: the Anointed Messiah has come, and with him is the triumph of redeeming love.
People: Thanks be to God, for the gift of your Son, Jesus, the light in darkness and hope of the world, whom you have sent to save humanity.
Leader: Luke 2:7
“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” His name shall be called Immanuel, meaning “God with us.”
People: Luke 2:10-11
“Do not be afraid, for I am bringing you good news of great joy for all people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Leader:
With all the angels, we praise your name, and tell the world the wondrous story of your birth.
People:
“Sweet little Jesus boy, born in a manger, Sweet little holy child, We didn’t know who you was.”
Leader:
Quietly you came to us. You came with power that we may share your power, Humble, that the poor and lowly might see their greatness; destined for a cross that all might have life eternal.
People:
God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.
Leader:
The work of Christmas is to find the lost, heal the broken, feed the hungry, release the captive, rebuild the nations, bring peace among the people, and make music in the heart.
All:
Come, celebrate, sing carols, decorate trees, and prepare a feast. Glory, glory to the new-born King! “O come let us adore him. O come let us adore him, Christ, the Lord.”
OPENING HYMN
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing Hymn #115
PRAYER
PRAYER RESPONSE
SCRIPTURE READING
PREFACE TO THE DECALOGUE Hymn #69 [⁞]
From all that dwell below the skies,
Let the Creator’s praise arise;
Let the redeemer’s name be sung,
Through every land by every tongue.”
DECALOGUE (Summary) [⁞]
Leader:
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
GLORIA PATRI [⁞]
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles Creed) [⁞]
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was crucified, dead, and buried. The third day he arose from the dead; he ascended to heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty: from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church Universal, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT: LOVE [⁞]
♫♫♫ We will walk in the light, beautiful light,
Come where the dewdrops of mercy are bright,
Shine all around us by day and by night,
Jesus the Light of the world. ♫♫♫
Leader:
Today, the last Sunday in the season of Advent we will focus on LOVE. When we light these candles today, we remember that Jesus is the Light of the world. During the Christmas Season we celebrate Jesus’ birth – Jesus our Savior, born to live and die and come again. Born to give perfect life in an imperfect and unjust world.
People:
Come let us adore Him.
Leader:
The God of hope, peace, joy and love calls us to unity, to deck others’ lives with boughs of justice. Justice was born in a manger to bring hope to the hopeless, to bring love to the unloved.
People:
Emmanuel, God with us!
Leader:
As we prepare for this Christmas season, give of yourself, give gifts as a reminder of the greatest Gift given to us by God ― Jesus Christ. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth!
All:
O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore him, Christ the Lord!
